In order to bring the yellow-looking dirty floor back to its original condition you will need to strip the floor. Simply waxing the floor won’t help in this case as it will only add some shine to the floor but will not remove old stains and dirt underneath it.
You will need the following items to strip and wax the floor:
- Rubber Gloves
- Stripper
- Toothbrush
- Floor squeegee
- Several Scrub Pads
- Floor Sealant
- Fan
- Floor Wax
- Broom or Vacuum
- Three buckets
- Putty knife
- Cotton mop
- Wet Dry Vacuum
- Floor Scrubber
Before you start, make sure that you have all the above. To make your job easier, try to purchase the same brand of floor wax and stripper, usually,
they go along better. You don’t have to purchase a floor scrubber as it could be rented from your local janitorial store.
- Remove all furniture – and rugs, pet bowls, and other items from the floor
- Sweep or vacuum the floor throughout – make sure that you remove any loose dirt out
- Test the stripper – apply the stripper to the invisible area as some older floors can’t withstand stripping
- Start waxing in small areas – make sure you start from the corner and work your way out to the exit. Plan to strip 2×4 sections at a time
- Dilute the stripper according to the manufacturer’s instructions
- Apply stripper – with the mop in 2×4 areas and try to avoid it getting into the floor cracks. Let it soak for a bit
- Scrape away wax buildups – by using a floor scrubber with appropriate pads
- Remove old wax and stripper – by using a combination of a toothbrush, scrubbing pads, and putty knife
- Pick up wax residue and stripper – into the waste bucket by using a squeegee or vet-dry vacuum
- Mop the floor – if you used the stripper that requires rinsing
- Allow the floor to dry – you can accelerate the process by using a fan if you have one
- Wax the floor and seal it – as soon as the floor completely dried Interworld Cleaning
